New Additions to the Farm

You can’t tell me when you walk into a farm store and hear the soft peep, peep, peep sounds of the baby chicks it doesn’t put a smile on your face?!

Thankfully I married a man that puts up with ALL my shenanigans and is onboard with bring new animals’ home. If he says no, it is only a matter of time before me and the girls talk him into our ideas. Luckly, we always buy new chicks at the beginning of spring. However, this year it has been such a pain to get any from our normal hatchery and some lovely people in town kept buying up all the chicks when the farm stores would get their shipments in. Needless to say it took a little time before we could get our normal purchase of chicks. The stores would get their shipments in on either Wednesday or Thursday morning and due to our work schedules there wouldn’t be any in the afternoon because they would be sold out by lunch time.

So like any normal person, the day after my knee surgery I had my mom come get me so we could go get chicks. With my nerve block still holding strong and crutches in hand we were off. The first store we went to - SOLD OUT! We missed getting our new chicks by 30 minutes. The frustration of adding to our flock this year was insane. Finally, we were able to get chicks at Atwoods. I went home with my 32 chicks!!! Before you ask-- No, I did not buy them out of their chickens.

The chickens are free range and happy! On a positive note, we were able to get a few roosters in the bunch. Our next project will be to create a new chicken coop. That will be documented at a later date… I am working out the design that I want and talking Carey into my project. Also time is our biggest hurdle with work and now with school just around the corner. I think in this season God is working on my patience and all things in His timing.
